Panel 1. A terrifying man with a huge, black beard (so black it looks almost blue) addresses a sweet little bundle of papers “I must go to town, my beautiful manuscript. While I am away you may do as you please. Except you must not look in this locked drawer!” “Yes, my love.” She replies Panel 2. He is gone. She has picked up a key “Just a peek. How bad can it be?” Panel 3. She opens the drawer. it is full of papers “So many abandoned drafts!” She gasps. Panel 5. Papers rise up and moan: “I was once his favorite!” “We have been in this drawer for years!” “You will join us soon!” “Escape while you still can!” The end. Post script: The manuscript ran away and reworked herself into a novel so beautiful that anyone who read her was enchanted for a hundred years. The other manuscripts crumbled to dust, but their spirits roamed the kingdom until they found writers worthy of their love. The terrifying author became a book reviewer and terrified other authors for the rest of his days.
